Attitudes to healthy eating and weight control 1983-2001 |
The following is a summary of the report available from SHEU (£10 incl. p&p)
When looking over these many years of figures, we find that young people in recent years are...
- more likely to skip breakfast on a school day (in 2001 31% had nothing to eat for breakfast in the morning before they did the survey, with more girls than boys saying so)
- more likely to have no lunch at all on a school day (in 2001 11% had no lunch on the day before they did the survey)
- more likely to have a packed lunch on a school day (in 2001 35% had a packed lunch on the day before they did the survey)
- eat chips more often (in 2001 27% said they eat chips on most days)
- less likely to eat fresh fruit on most days (in 2001 43% said they eat fresh fruit on most days)
- less likely to consider their health when choosing food (in 2001 16% said they never consider their health when choosing food, particularly boys)
- more likely to want to lose weight (in 2001 42% said they want to lose weight, with more girls than boys saying so)
...when compared with figures from previous years.
