Fit to Succeed - Toolkit - Research Team
Role of research work in ‘Fit to Succeed’

The research element has an essential part to play in monitoring the success of a ‘Fit to Succeed’ type project as they will provide the baseline information on which the practical activities can be assessed.

  • Using a questionnaire tool is a useful exercise because it raises the profile of the project and can act as a stimulus in itself to create a change in behaviour for the individual.
  • The individual feedback that each pupil receives can make them look at their own activity levels compared to their peers.
  • The data that comes back to the school will provide teachers and curriculum leaders with information that they can use to modify activity programmes or to take advantage of additional opportunities.
  • The comparative report that is returned to school can be a useful tool that identifies priorities or can be used as evidence to bid for additional support if necessary.
  • The connections that have been made through examining the total database have made for some very interesting investigations and can be used to promote policy change in school and beyond.
