The project can run without the post of Fit to Succeed Coordinator but to enable the smooth running of the project it is highly recommended that a coordinator who has full responsibility for keeping the profile of the project high among the schools is identified.
Delivery of the Fit to Succeed project may include the following tasks:
Use the overall information collected via the pupil questionnaires to develop area wide initiatives that all schools can have access to.
Develop individual projects tailored to the needs of each school using the existing resources that they have at their disposal and working with them to expand the range of opportunities available to pupils.
Produce a newsletter to be distributed to pupils. Invite contributions from schools in order to share good practice among local schools.
Develop and maintain an up-to-date, ‘school friendly’ handbook of information about all the local sports clubs and contacts for activity.
Keep the local media informed of any events that they might be interested in covering so that the message reaches a wider audience outside school contacts.
Develop close links with representatives of local sports clubs and organisations that encourage physical activity. Where possible arrange for activity sessions to be held on school sites.
Liaise with commercial leisure providers to develop opportunities for schools or groups to have access to their sites (at discounted rates).
Assist with organisation of local, regional sports events and activities. Where possible, foster links between secondary schools and their feeder primaries to plan events taking place on the secondary school site marshaled by older pupils for the younger pupils.
Work closely with the National Healthy School Scheme coordinator to help schools hit Physical Activity targets.
Liaise with sport specific development officers to see what they can arrange locally. In particular to arrange coaching sessions for schools or coach qualification courses for adults.
Work with schools and local organisations to identify opportunities for activities that involve all family members.
Working closely with the management team to feedback successes and any problems encountered.
